Spanish Trail Project Narrative
Asa Ashcraft, Executive Director, for the Spanish Trails Master Association said it best, “Spanish Trail has been known for green laws and pine trees and we realized that we couldn’t continue to maintain that, not only as a responsible citizen but also financially.” It was because of Spanish Trails’ desire to reduce cost, improve upon and update the appearance of the east and west entry gates, and contribute responsibly to the preservation of the most precious resource, in southern Nevada that this project came to fruition. Environmentally the goal was to be responsible citizens and keep the appearance lush and green but to use drought tolerant plant life.

The landscape design firm, RPA Landscape Architecture, developed a comprehensive design process under the management of Kari Bergh. RPA Landscape Architecture worked closely with the Design Committee to develop a sustainable and responsible plan while preserving the essence of the Spanish Trail community. RPA and the Design Committee decided upon a Mediterranean theme that coined the phrase “Spanish Evergreen European Country Estates”. The design is unique and extraordinary in the use of materials and plant life in pursuit of their goals. Marc Lamoine, Architect, designed the building components to mirror the new vision and goals with astounding results. Symmetry between the landscape and building elements using an open entry with rich colors creates a free flowing and harmonious appearance meeting its functional, aesthetic and environmental purpose.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) participated in the project with their water conservation rebate program by subsidizing some of the construction costs with rebates for roughly 64,000 square feet of water thirsty turf removal. The SNWA featured this project in their public information program titled, Water Ways. The program exclaimed the virtues of this project and how responsibly proactive the project is in providing outstanding beauty while preserving water, southern Nevada’s most precious resource.

AJB General Contractor provided construction services for this project; great planning and professionalism of all parties made this a very wonderful experience. AJB General Contractor, with the assistance of Capriatti Landscaping, other subcontractors and vendors recycled paving, concrete, block and roughly 200 large palm trees (60′ and greater height) and other materials. AJB determined that roughly 250 individuals were employed throughout the duration of this project during the “Great Recession” in 2010. Alan Jeskey and Curtis Cummings, company principals, are pleased with the outcome and high level of customer satisfaction, but recognize the talent of the team, comprised of Project Manager, Jeff Bush, Superintendent, John Orzal and the many others on our very talented staff. The entire AJB General Contractor team is happy to have another great project to add to the thousands previously done over our long Las Vegas building history.
